Still several days and 1,400 miles from Iowa, Manny Ramirez already appears to be having an impact in the Cubs’ system – 450-feet worth of impact on one home run ball alone during an extended spring game Wednesday, according to some in attendance.

Expected to join the Cubs’ Class AAA affiliate in Des Moines by early next week as a player-coach, Ramirez is getting in playing shape this week in Arizona, where $30 million Cuban outfield prospect Jorge Soler happens to be rehabbing a hamstring injury.

“Manny can help any right-handed hitter, for sure, but it might be hard in that setting when you’re doing cage work and [therapy],” Cubs general manager Jed Hoyer said. “Hopefully, they’ll come in contact with each other at some point because I think it would be a good guy for him to talk to.”
