White Sox to hire Todd Steverson as hitting coach

Updated: October 25, 2013 7:21PM

The White Sox will hire Oakland Athletics minor-league hitting coordinator Todd Steverson as their hitting coach, a major-league source said Friday.

The announcement is expected after the World Series.

Steverson, 41, will replace Jeff Manto, who was fired after two seasons. He has major-league experience, as a first-base coach with the A’s, and was a manager in the A’s system from 2005 to ’08. His minor-league managerial record was 297-264. He began his coaching career in the St. Louis Cardinals’ system.

Steverson, a cousin of former Sox outfielder Ron LeFlore, played briefly in the majors, batting .256 with two homers and six RBI over 30 games with the Detroit Tigers and one with the San Diego Padres.
