Another seven strong innings from the Cubs’ most consistent starting pitcher this year wasn’t enough to beat the Cincinnati Reds on Wednesday as the Cubs lost for the 12th straight home game against their divison rivals, 2-1 at Wrigley Field.
It’s the Cubs’ longest home losing streak to one opponent in the history of Wrigley Field.
Starter Travis Wood (5-5) took a no-hitter two outs deep into the fifth inning and a 1-0 lead into the sixth.
But a one-out double by Shin-Soo Choo and two-out, RBI single by Brandon Phillips tied the game in the sixth. And Todd Frazier’s second home run in as many games – leading off the seventh – put the Reds ahead.
It was the seventh RBI so far for Phillips in the four-game series, which concludes Thursday afternoon.
