Fans can expect ‘heightened level of security’ at Wrigley in wake of Boston Marathon tragedy

Fans attending Tuesday’s game at Wrigley Field – and future games – can expect to see increased attention to bag checks as well as more police outside the park than usual, including K9 units, in the wake of the bombings at the Boston Marathon on Monday, team officials say.

“We’ll have a heightened level of security,” Cubs spokesman Julian Green said. “We’re not changing our staffing, but we’re going to be more diligent.”

That includes, “reinforcing our protocol for inspecting bags,” he said as well as potentially a few more security-related questions than normal.

“Beyond that, we’re just asking fans to be vigilant,” Green said, “and asking our security staff to have a heightened awareness.”

Green compared the heightened measures to how the Cubs handled having dignitaries, including then Secretary of State Hillary Clinton, at the ballpark last summer the week the NATO conferences were in Chicago.
