With pitcher Randy Wells assigned to Class AAA Iowa, the Cubs are likely making room for Jorge Soler.
The team is expected to announce by Monday the official signing of the Cuban hitting prospect.
Wells has strugged in the rotation since being recalled from Iowa last month. He was designated for assignment on Wednesday, one day after giving up three runs on six hits with four walks in three innings to the New York Mets. Wells was 1-2 with a 5.34 ERA in 12 games, including four starts.
