Baseball season is finally here and my family and Cubs fans everywhere are excited.
We are excited to go back to our favorite place to gather with family and friends and to enjoy the sights and sounds of the best ballpark in the world.
This year, we are particularly excited about what is happening on the field.
This offseason, I believe, will be remembered as a turning point in the history of the Chicago Cubs. When we decided it was time for new leadership in our baseball organization, I knew that we needed to aim high and to get the right person for job. Fortunately, Theo Epstein decided that he was up for the challenge.
What most impressed me when I met Theo was his emphasis on team-building in the front office as well as on the field. After accepting the position, he immediately reached out to bring in other talented baseball executives including our new GM Jed Hoyer and our new Head of Scouting and Player Development Jason McLeod.
This new team merged with some of the talented people that the Cubs already had on board and set out on a mission: to build a winner “The Cubs Way.”
The Cubs Way is more than just a saying. It is a set of baseball principles and coaching practices that are designed to ensure our players at every level are taught the game correctly and consistently. The Cubs Way, when combined with great scouting and first-class training facilities, will lead us to our goal of being the best organization in baseball and, ultimately, winning a championship.
On the field, under the guidance of our new manager, Dale Sveum, you will see a team that is well-prepared, well-coached and willing to play every game as if it is the seventh game of the World Series. This season you will see veterans playing with a renewed commitment and emerging, talented young players who will be the cornerstones of many Cubs teams to come.
As a Cubs fan, I have never been more confident in our future. And our future begins today.
