Starting today, the most expensive piece of sports memorabilia, a circa-1920 New York Yankees road jersey worn by Babe Ruth, will be on display at the Baseball Hall of Fame in Cooperstown, N.Y.
The jersey was purchased in May for $4,415,658 and was donated to the Hall by the anonymous buyer.
It will be on display in Ruth’s locker in the Babe Ruth Gallery and is expected to remain there through Hall of Fame weekend except for July 24-Aug. 9.
The jersey surpassed the $4,338,500 paid in 2010 for Dr. James Naismith’s founding rules of basketball.
