Forget the road less traveled. Mike Mizanin opted to take the road never traveled. While kicking his way through the business school at Miami (Ohio), Mizanin told his father he wanted to quit college, join the cast of MTV’s “The Real World’’ for a season, then chase down his dream of becoming a professional wrestler. Crazy? Never doubt ‘‘The Miz.’’ Interrogation Room time.
Joe Cowley: From Cleveland to ‘‘The Real World’’ to former WWE champion, how does that happen?
The Miz: I realized in college I wanted to do something different. When you grow up in Cleveland, you go to high school, then college, get married and go back to Cleveland. I wanted more than that.
JC: You spent a lot of time competing in the MTV challenge shows before wrestling. Besides yourself, which cast member would have been a good WWE addition? I’m guessing CT [Chris Tamburello].
Miz: CT was always a good friend of mine on those shows. He watches out for CT, but as long as you know that, it’s fine. There are a lot more conniving guys on that show than him. But this wrestling thing is a hard road. I doubt any of those guys would have what it takes.
JC: Which would be a tougher sell to bring home to the parents – a WWE Diva or one of those reality-show chicks?
Miz: I just brought a WWE Diva home to my parents, and they loved her. MTV makes sure they pick out girls that are off their rocker, so there are more meltdowns. No thanks on that one.
JC: You’ll be in Chicago for “Monday Night Raw’’ the night after Christmas. I’ve lived in both places, so which is better, Cleveland or Chicago?
Miz: Not even close, Cleveland is awesome. Browns, Indians, Cavs, and even though they aren’t great right now, the fans always support them.
JC: Wow, making friends fast in Chicago. You like being the heel?
Miz: I don’t look as myself as bad or good. Am I looking to be the best? Absolutely. Do I do whatever it takes to get to the top? Yes. Does that mean cheating a little bit? Yes. Is it so bad to want to be No. 1? I wasn’t handed anything in this profession. It isn’t like you just do “The Real World’’ and they hand you a WWE contract.
JC: So what can we expect from you the night after Christmas on “Raw’’?
Miz: Expect the unexpected. One night after Christmas? Anything can happen.
