The Cubs have agreed with Red Sox general manager Theo Epstein on a five-year deal worth more than $15 million, according to a report from WEEI’s John Dennis.
The deal is reportedly expected to be finalized this week. A few things that could be holding it up are Epstein’s title and any compensation due the Red Sox.
ESPN’s Buster Olney reports that Epstein’s deal is for nearly $20 million.
The Cubs have not commented.
Epstein served as general manager in Boston for nine years and the team won two World Series during his tenure.
If Epstein comes to the Cubs, many think that Ryne Sandberg might not be far behind. When he was GM with the Red Sox, Epstein reportedly offered Sandberg the managerial post at Triple-A Pawtucket.
