COLUMBUS, Ohio — A restaurant chain is dropping a steak named for Ohio State football coach Jim Tressel, saying tradition requires the meal be named for a current coach.
The suburban Cleveland-based Hyde Park Prime Steakhouse served both a 14-ounce and 18-ounce version of the New York strip steak that carried Tressel’s name.
Restaurant co-founder Rick Hauck told the Columbus Dispatch for a story Friday that the business loves Tressel but had to make the change because he is no longer Ohio State’s coach.
Tressel resigned under pressure Monday amidst a scandal involving players selling memorabilia or trading them for tattoos.
Hauck said the restaurant is considering renaming the steak after Ohio State basketball coach Thad Matta.
