Report: Steelers center Pouncey out
February 4, 2011 11:30AM
Pittsburgh Steelers rookie center Maurkice Pouncey will not play in the Super Bowl on Sunday, according to a report by ESPN’s Adam Schefter.
Steeler coach Mike Tomlin said Pouncey needed to practice on Friday to play in Sunday’s game, bu Schefter says that will not happen.
The Pro Bowl center suffered a high ankle sprain in the Steelers’ 24-19 victory over the New York Jets in the AFC championship game nearly two weeks ago. Pouncey needed crutches and wore a walking boot on his left foot as he got off the team plane in Dallas on Monday, but didn’t need either during the players’ final media session Thursday.
Pouncey’s replacement, Doug Legursky would make his first NFL start at center.
