Bears' Bennett OK after car accident
STAFF REPORT
Chicago Bears wide receiver Earl Bennett tweeted that he's glad to be "alive" after his car was rear-ended in an accident early Monday morning.
Bennett tweeted that he was OK, but his car wasn't as fortunate: "... guy ran into back of my ole skool we smashed into wall ole skool done!!! But I'm alive that's all that matters. Thanking God I'm alive!!!!"
Bennett's "ole skool" was a 1973 Chevy Impala, according to police. The car that hit him was a 1998 Pontiac Sunfire.
No injuries were reported after the driver of the Pontiac failed to slow down and rear-ended Bennett¹s car at 12:11 a.m. on the Ohio Street feeder ramp off I-90/94, Illinois State Police confirmed.
Master Sgt. Jeff Kashmeier said alcohol was not involved. He says the driver of the Pontiac was cited for driving with a suspended or revoked license and for failing to reduce speed.
Kashmeier says Bennett had a passenger with him but isn't sure who it was.
Police called the crash a "minor property damage" accident.
Bennett was at the Bears' practice Monday morning, but was not available for comment. Coach Lovie Smith said: "[He's] working out down
there [in Halas Hall]. He¹s fine. He was, from what I¹m told, in an accident, but
he's fine. Again, [he] worked out down there this morning, no issues."
Bennett had four catches for 52 yards, including the game-winning touchdown, in the Bears' 22-19 victory over the Buffalo Bills on Sunday.
