Nikola Mirotic gives Bulls much-needed shooting

Updated: July 18, 2014 4:11PM

Tom Thibodeau always says that a team can never have enough shooting. Last year it seemed the Bulls didn’t have enough.

So the addition of the 6-10 Nikola Mirotic who can spread the floor with his shooting was welcomed by the Bulls.

“Most teams now have a power forward with that skill-set and I think it’s important to have in the NBA today,” Thibodeau said.

“There’s a lot of international players in our league and they’ve done quite well. I don’t think it will be a hard transition for him.”

Looking back on draft night in 2011, general manager Gar Forman said that the Bulls thought they could wait for Mirotic to develop overseas. While playing in Europe, most recently with Real Madrid, Mirotic grew into a player that was widely considered the best not playing in the NBA.

“This is a big challenge for me,” Mirotic said through a translator. “The whole situation is a big challenge. I know it’s going to be hard, especially in the beginning. But as coach was saying that helps me a lot. They want me to progress step by step and take it one step at a time. I strongly believe that I am ready for this challenge and I’m going to show it by practicing, working out hard and playing.”

Mirotic, who wore No. 12 in Europe, will wear No. 44 with Bulls. Kirk Hinrich currently wears No. 12.
