COLORADO SPRINGS, Colo. — Manny Ramirez didn’t make much of an imprint on his first game as a player with the Cubs’ Triple-A affiliate.
Playing in the second game of a doubleheader for the Iowa Cubs on the day he joined the team after training individually for weeks in Mesa, Ariz., Ramirez, batting sixth, went 0-for-4 with two strikeouts. He also flew sharply to center and, in his first at bat, reached on an error after Colorado Springs’ shortstop booted a ground ball.
Ramirez — signed by the Cubs a month ago as a “player-coach” — watched the first game from the dugout.
It’s fair to say he enjoyed playing more.
