CINCINNATI – Monday’s Cubs-Reds came was postponed by rain after nearly an hour delay at Great American Ball Park.
No makeup date or time has been determined. The Cubs play in Cincinnati twice more this season.
It’s only the eighth rainout in the history of the 12th-year ballpark. The Cubs are the only opponent to get rained out twice there (also in 2012).
It’s the second rainout for the Cubs in the first four weeks of the season, including April 15 in New York. The Cubs also have had two other games delayed by rain so far.
The series in Cincinnati continues with 6:10 p.m. games scheduled for Tuesday and Wednesday.
Jeff Samardzija (0-2, 1.53), who was scheduled to pitch Monday’s game, gets moved to Tuesday for the Cubs, against Reds right-hander Alfredo Simon (3-1, 1.30).
The Cubs and Reds will back up Tuesday’s starters one day as well, with Cubs right-hander Edwin Jackson (1-2, 5.02) against left-hander Tony Congrani (2-2, 2.86) in the series finale Wednesday.
Jake Arrieta, who was cleared before the game to return from the disabled list (shoulder) to make his season debut Wednesday, gets pushed back into the weekend home series against St. Louis.
