KANSAS CITY, Mo. — Rookie right-hander Erik Johnson was roughed up in his first start of the season, giving up three runs in the first inning and failing to finish five innings — and the Kansas City Royals never looked back in their 7-5 victory over the White Sox on Friday at Kauffman Stadium.

A crowd of 40,103 enjoyed the Royals’ home opener and the team’s first win after an 0-2 start. Alex Gordon’s three-run double in the first — which right fielder Avisail Garcia appeared to freeze on momentarily before retreating and chasing it to the warning track — and Lorenzo Cain’s two-run single in the fifth were the big blows.

Catcher Tyler Flowers had three consecutive hits, including a double, giving him seven hits in a row after going 4-for-4 in the Sox’ 10-9 loss to the Minnesota Twins on Thursday. Adam Eaton reached base three times with two singles and a hit-by-pitch and drove in two runs. Jose Abreu picked up his sixth RBI of the season with a sacrifice fly.

Garcia was 0-for-4 with an RBI ground out, extending his hitless streak to 13.

The Sox are 2-2 after a 2-0 start.

Johnson (0-1) allowed seven runs, 10 hits and three walks. He also threw a wild pitch and hit a batter.
