Mike Magee is back with the Fire.
The team announced that Magee returned on Wednesday night and took part in team activities on Thursday in Tucson, Ariz. The reigning MVP has been absent from preseason training because of what the team called “personal issues,” though one report said Magee was holding out.
Fire technical director Brian Bliss said Tuesday that if Magee, 29, was holding out, he hadn’t been informed.
“I’ve seen a few tweets and a few people speculate on some websites or blogs or whatever you call them that that’s what he’s doing, and if that’s the case, that has not been communicated to me or [coach] Frank [Yallop] via the agent or Mike,” Bliss said Tuesday. “He says personal issues. I’m not digging into it, and neither is Frank out of respect to him. Until we hear otherwise, we don’t believe he’s a holdout.”
According to MLS Players, Magee’s guaranteed compensation was $191,666.67 last season, 10th on the Fire. Magee’s contract runs until the end of next season.
Magee, Yallop and Bliss are expected to address the media Friday.
