“Friday Night Lights” is not coming to the Big Ten any time soon.
Social media was abuzz Thursday regarding various reports the Big Ten was looking into playing football games on Friday night.
The Big Ten’s 10-year broadcast contract for regular-season games with ABC and ESPN is up in 2017. Friday night football would obviously give the conference that much more visibility and leverage in negotiating a new contract.
Big Ten commissioner Jim Delany, however, was quick to shoot down the notion moments after speaking at the City Club of Chicago
“Who said we were moving games to Friday nights?” Delany said. “Where did that come from?”
Delany conceded the conference would entertain the idea of a Friday game after Thanksgiving. The conference already plays the Friday before Labor Day.
