Michal Rozsival was fortunate to have just a fat lip and some stitches, and not to lose any teeth or break any bones, after taking a puck to the face while sitting on the bench in the third period of the Hawks’ victory over Edmonton on Sunday night. The puck, off the stick of the Oilers’ David Perron, caught Rozsival by surprise and knocked him clear off the bench.

Perron texted Rozsival to apologize for the accidental play, which Rozsival said was “very nice,” but Rozsival blamed himself.

“I wasn’t watching the play,” he said. “If I was watching the play, then I probably [would have been] able to get away, to make some kind of move or protect myself a little bit. But I just lost sight of the puck for a little bit.”

Rozsival, who normally doesn’t wear a visor, was wearing a full face shield at practice on Wednesday.

Morin back in

Rookie winger Jeremy Morin has been a healthy scratch for three games in a row, but should be back in the lineup Thursday against the Coyotes. Hawks coach Joel Quenneville expressed concerns with Morin’s defensive play, and hopes the message was delivered.

“Defensively, make sure you’re doing the right things within the team structure,” Quenneville said. “That’s what we’re hoping for.”

Handzus hurting

Michal Handzus appears to have suffered a setback in his recovery from an upper-body injury that has sidelined him for eight consecutive games. He didn’t skate the last couple of days, and still could be a couple of weeks away from returning.
