Northwestern’s struggling offense might get the boost it needs when Kain Colter returns to the lineup Saturday at Iowa.
The senior quarterback and receiver, who missed the Wildcats’ loss Saturday to Minnesota with an ankle
injury, said he will play against the Hawkeyes. Colter said he isn’t 100 percent healthy, but he left no doubt about his status.
Colter initially injured his ankle during practice Oct. 8. He was a limited participant in practice the next day
before practicing fully the rest of the week. He re-
injured the ankle in the first quarter of NU’s loss Oct. 12 at Wisconsin but was able to re-enter the game. By the fourth quarter, though, he was ruled out.
After a medical evaluation last week, the Wildcats held Colter out of the game against the Golden Gophers because they determined the risk of reinjuring the ankle was too high. Colter was NU’s emergency quarterback against Minnesota, which means he only would have played had Trevor Siemian and Zack Oliver been injured.
Colter indicated his injury wasn’t a typical sprain, but he didn’t want to go into detail.
‘‘For us, it’s just about getting in a rhythm and getting that first first down,’’ he said. ‘‘If we can do that, it will be good. And we also just need to get back into our tempo stuff and wear teams down.’’
