WWE offering very little with Battleground
BLACKJACK BROWN October 5, 2013 7:00PM
Sunday night is the WWE Battleground pay-per-view, and if the last few weeks of TV are any indication, this could be a tough one. Barring a few rabbits being pulled from hats, this is just not the best that WWE has to offer.
Daniel Bryan will face Randy Orton for the vacant WWE title. With very little going on, I expect some type of disputed finish so this angle can continue.
In a hardcore rules match for the world heavyweight title, Rob Van Dam will challenge Alberto Del Rio. Elsewhere on the show, the Divas title match will see Brie Bella challenging A.J. Lee, Curtis Axel will defend the Intercontinental title against R-Truth, and Goldust and Cody Rhodes (with their father, Dusty Rhodes, in their corner) will face Seth Rollins and Roman Reigns in a tag match where if Goldust and Cody win, they get WWE jobs. If they lose, they never can work for WWE again and Dusty Rhodes will lose his developmental job.
Around the ring
Mark Henry may have inked a new contract, but there’s no news on when he’ll return from his hamstring injury. . . . Vince McMahon is scheduled to return to TV in November, but after the brutal ratings the last two weeks, the CEO could be back as soon as this week. The Triple H/Stephanie deal is a disaster, and the only way I can see out of this mess would be to have Vince come back and support Bryan and the fan favorites against his daughter and son-in-law. . . . Hulk Hogan is no longer under contract with TNA.
