The Stanley Cup championship banner wasn’t the only thing that went up during Tuesday’s Capitals-Blackhawks game. The ratings did, too.
The broadcast on NBC Sports Network was seen by an average of 935,000 viewers, making it the most-watched opener on cable on record, according to data available since 1993.
It was the second highest rating for a regular-season game on the network, which began its NHL coverage in 2005.
Chicago scored a 7.32 rating, a record for a regular-season game on the network, which ranked as the top cable channel in the market during the game.
Washington delivered the network’s second-highest rating with a 2.3.
