General manager Phil Emery’s work isn’t done yet.

There are plenty of players to look at after Saturday’s leaguewide cuts. Some moves still can be made.

But center Taylor Boggs can hang his hat on making the Bears’ first 53-man roster. He’s light-years from his days as an undrafted rookie out of Humboldt State in 2011.

“My goal since I was 12 was to play in the NFL,” Boggs said.

Boggs made it through the final cuts. The Bears got down to 53 players by waiving linebacker J.T. Thomas and wide receiver Terrence Toliver and reaching an injury settlement with defensive tackle Corvey Irvin (ankle).

Boggs beat out veteran lineman Edwin Williams to earn a roster spot. It’s a spot that remains in question, however, with the Bears having nine offensive linemen at the moment and tackle Jonathan Scott’s injured right knee getting better.

But the Bears definitely see value in Boggs, who was cut by the New York Jets in 2012 after tearing his ACL.

“I always have pressure on myself — that fear of failure,” Boggs said. “I’m not afraid to fail because I worked hard. I wasn’t going to fail by not working. I gave it my all the last few years.”

Practice time

Teams can start assembling their eight-man practice squads at 11 a.m. Sunday. Toliver, defense lineman Aston Whiteside, guard Derek Dennis and rookie cornerback Demontre Hurst were cut but are considered candidates for the Bears’ practice squad (if they clear waivers).
