Bears sign veteran QB Trent Edwards

Updated: September 20, 2013 6:29AM

The Bears added another quarterback to their mix Sunday, signing veteran Trent Edwards to a one-year contract.

Edwards was signed a day after the Bears announced a deal with quarterback Jordan Palmer. The Bears now have five quarterbacks on their roster, including Jay Cutler, Josh McCown and Matt Blanchard.

Blanchard, though, is injured. It’s not known how long he’s going to be out, but he suffered a broken knuckle on his left (non-throwing) hand Thursday against the Chargers.

To make room for Edwards on their roster, the Bears waived receiver Jerrell Jackson.

Edwards has started 33 of the 38 games he has played with the Bills (2007-10), Jaguars (2010), Raiders (2011) and Eagles (2012). In his career, he has thrown for 6,033 yards and 26 touchdowns with 30 interceptions.
