Seattle Seahawks v Chicago Bears

Looking svelte and mobile, quarterback Jay Cutler was intercepted on his first throw (Chris Conte, below) and his last (Kelvin Hayden) during the Bears’ first practice of training camp but was fine in between, including several deep balls to Alshon Jeffery and Brandon Marshall. He was particularly impressive in drills and appears to be getting the hang of the fundamentals instilled by the coaching staff.
‘‘I thought he was really on rhythm today,’’ coach Marc Trestman said. ‘‘He got the ball out of his hand on time. You can’t configure the pass rush, so it’s not quite the same as it’s going to be on Sunday. But he’s doing everything he has to do. Until you look at the tape, you don’t know. But I thought he had a very good day.’’
It’s way too early to judge, but Cutler appears as focused as he has been in five seasons with the Bears. And his teammates are behind him like never before.
‘‘He wants to be the best quarterback in the game,’’ Jeffery said. ‘‘He’s got that chip on his shoulder. All the receivers and all the skill guys, we look forward to making sure he’s the best quarterback in the game.’’
