Shoving a King obviously has staying power.

It was in Game 3 of the Bulls-Heat playoff series back in May in which Nazr Mohammed really ingratiated himself into the growing rivalry between the two Eastern Conference teams, pushing four-time MVP LeBron James to the ground after an exchange of fouls.

Mohammed was ejected in that contest, but never from the team’s offseason plans, as they officially re-signed the center Thursday afternoon.

The 6-foot-10, 16-year veteran tweeted out last week that he was returning for a second season with his hometown team, and his spot now really leaves only one opening on the roster with the Bulls likely carrying 13 players yet again.

As for Mohammed, he played his high school ball at Kenwood Academy, before heading to the University of Kentucky. He was on two National Championship teams with the Wildcats, and then won an NBA title with the Spurs in 2005.

It was a tale of two seasons for Mohammed with the Bulls last year, barely seeing minutes in the first half, before becoming a key reserve in the second half because of all the injuries.

“I thought Nazr was tremendous,’’ Bulls coach Tom Thibodeau said of Mohammed at the end of their postseason run.

After averaging less than a point a game in about 6.4 minutes per contest entering the All-Star Break, Mohammed was playing just over 24 minutes a game in the last month of the regular season, averaging 6.9 points and 7.4 rebounds.

His role will remain backing up center Joakim Noah, as well as giving Thibodeau a big body to throw in there against certain lineups.
