Sveum says Cubs’ celebration would be ‘close to 10 times’ that of Blackhawks’

MILWAUKEE -- The streets filled with the din of celebration and red jerseys. The helicopters overhead. The distant pop-pop-pop of intermittent fireworks – or whatever else might have caused the pops.

Cubs manager Dale Sveum and other Cubs personnel were left with one overriding thought when they saw and heard it all when they emptied into the crowded streets of Wrigleyville from their Southport watering hole after the Blackhawks’ stunning finish Monday night to win the Stanley Cup:

“Guys understand it’ll be close to 10 times that if we win it,” Sveum said. “That whole area, Clark Street, and every street.”

The only other time Sveum was in a city that won a championship, he said, was when he was a Class AAA player in Canada and the Edmonton Oilers won the Stanley Cup in 1985.

“So it was kind of cool,” he said.
