If you thought the Tigers’ Miguel Cabrera couldn’t get any better, compare his numbers to last year’s at this time. | John F. Rhodes~AP

THE NATIONAL NINE
1 After 44 games this season, Miguel Cabrera was hitting .387 with 13 HR and 52 RBI. In his Triple Crown 2012 season, after 44 games, Miggy was hitting .305 with eight homers and 35 RBI.
2 Can’t decide? Don’t ask the Reds’ Mat Latos for help. He can’t help you. He tied for the MLB league lead in no-decisions in 2012 with 15, and he already has six this season.
3 The Royals have struck out only 108 times with runners on base, the fewest in the majors.
4 The Indians are 6-0 at home in one-run games.
5 Entering the weekend, Rickie Weeks had exactly twice as many whiffs as hits, 52 to 26.
6 The Reds are hitting .302 on full counts while the Pirates are hitting .124.
7 Through his first 97 games, Manny Machado has a .292 average with 12 homers and 52 RBI. After Bryce Harper’s first 97 games, he was hitting .248 with 11 homers and 34 RBI. In Mike Trout’s first 97 games, he hit .298 with 14 homers and 49 RBI.
8 The Brewers have hit into 33 inning-ending double plays.
9 Since 2000, the worst team ERA belongs to the 2001 Texas Rangers at 5.71, but keep your eyes on the 2013 Houston Astros, who were at 5.40.
CHICAGO NINE TO KNOW
1 Mike Trout’s cycle got me thinking about when the last cycles were hit by the local nines, and it’s been awhile: Jose Valentin for the Sox on April 27, 2000, and Mark Grace for the Cubs on May 9, 1993.
2 The league save/blown save average is 67 percent. The Sox pen is saving at an 84 percent rate, the Cubs bullpen at 50 percent (the same as the Astros).
3 Jake Peavy leads the Sox with 20 called third strikes. Scott Feldman leads the Cubs with 18.
4 The Cubs are 4-6 in one-run road games this season after going an MLB-worst 3-17 last season. However, they are 2-6 in one-runners at home this season, the worst in MLB.
5 While watching paint dry, I track whether Jeff Keppinger will walk (he had two entering the weekend) or homer (he has one).
6 Too bad Edwin Jackson can’t start games in the third inning. In 10 third innings, he’s allowed just one run, while he’s allowed eight runs in his first innings and another eight in his second innings.
7 White Sox pitchers have only 32 strikeouts with runners in scoring position with less than two outs, the fewest in the AL.
8 The Cubs are the only winless team in the majors when the opposition has scored at least four runs, going 0-24. The Sox are 4-16.
9 On July 15, 2001, Brian Urlacher led the singing of ‘‘Take Me Out to the Ball Game’’ at Wrigley. The Cubs beat the Royals 2-1.

The Week ahead Every team will play at least four interleague games next week, meaning it’s a civil war as the North Side faces the South Side, first at the Cell, then at Wrigley. The White Sox lead the series 49-41, going 26-19 at home and 23-22 at Wrigley. The Sox then head to Oakland, while the Cubs host the Diamondbacks.
