Guard Kyle Long, whom the Bears drafted with the 20th overall pick last month out of Oregon, will attend rookie mincamp this weekend, but his offseason training with the team will be limited after that.

Long is among a group of rookies who are ineligible to participate in organized team activities and offseason workouts because of an NFL rule that prohibits incoming rookies from taking part until after their final exams.

The rule typically affects players from Pac-12 schools, such as Long, because of later academic calendars. Oregon’s final exams are June 10-14, and graduation is June 17.

The Bears’ OTAs are scheduled between Monday and June 6. Their mandatory minicamp is June 11-13.

In other news, the Bears promoted Kevin Turks to
director of pro personnel to replace Chris Ballard, who left last week to become the Kansas City Chiefs’ director of player personnel; promoted Dwayne Joseph to associate director of pro personnel; and hired Ryan Kessenich as a scout.

† The Jacksonville Jaguars signed free-agent cornerback Marcus Trufant, reuniting him with coach Gus Bradley.

Trufant spent his first 10 NFL seasons with the Seat-
tle Seahawks, starting 125 games and intercepting 21 passes. He played the last four seasons under Bradley, the Seahawks’ former defensive coordinator.

† The Denver Broncos hired former Philadelphia
Eagles and Cleveland Browns general manager Tom Heckert as their director of pro personnel.
