MIAMI – Cubs first baseman Anthony Rizzo talked about sleeping in his own bed and maybe getting a home-cooked meal as he returned home to South Florida for a four-game weekend series against the Miami Marlins.
Who knew he’d be doing his own cooking Friday night?
Rizzo, batting just .173 entering the game (but with a .420 slugging percentage), hit two-run homers in his first two at-bats Friday to provide all the Cubs’ scoring in a 4-2 victory over the Marlins in a battle of last-place teams.
The victory gave the Cubs back-to-back wins for the first time this season – albeit, both against Miami.
The home runs also gave Rizzo the club record for most in April by a left-handed hitter (eight), and he’s just two off Alfonso Soriano’s 2010 overall record.
Rizzo’s power play backed the best outing of the season by right-hander Scott Feldman (1-3), who pitched 7 2/3 innings for his first victory as a Cub.
