White Sox, Twins will keep rotations in order after postponement

Updated: May 21, 2013 6:23AM

After the game Friday was postponed because of the cold, the White Sox and Minnesota Twins kept their starting rotations in order for what has become a two-game series. Right-hander Jake Peavy will start against Vance Worley on Saturday, and Gavin Floyd will oppose left-hander Scott Diamond on Sunday.

Worley is coming off the worst outing of his three-year career. He gave up nine runs (seven earned) and seven hits in one inning against the New York Mets. Peavy struck out 11 in seven innings in his last start against the Cleveland Indians, rebounding from a start in Washington in which he gave up six runs, including three homers, in 51/3 innings.

Floyd has started the season 0-3 for the first time in his career. He pitched 41/3 innings in his last start against the Toronto Blue Jays but has had no more than two runs of support in his starts.

The postponement Friday because of the cold was the sixth in U.S. Cellular Field history. The last time also came against the Twins, on April 10, 2008.

No makeup date has been set. Fans holding tickets to the game Friday should retain them until a makeup date is determined.

Viciedo update

Dayan Viciedo remains day-to-day after suffering a left oblique strain Thursday in Toronto. He received treatment Friday.

The injury occurred in the eighth inning as he swung at a pitch from Esmil Rogers.

After starting the season 4-for-34 (.118), Viciedo hit well on the road trip and has a four-game hitting streak. He was 8-for-29 on the trip with three doubles and two RBI, but he went 7-for-14 in the last four games.

A look ahead

A three-game series starting Monday against the Indians will see Dylan Axelrod (0-1, 4.70 ERA) face Justin Masterson (3-1, 1.67), lefty Jose Quintana (1-0, 2.55) face Zach McAllister (1-2, 3.12) and lefty Chris Sale (1-2, 4.50) likely facing Brett Myers, who started Friday against the Houston Astros.
