So is Rosemont disappointed about the Cubs reaching a deal to stay in Chicago?
“Obviously, we’re not surprised,” said Gary Mack, spokesman for Rosemont Mayor Brad Stephens, who’d offered 25 free acres to lure the team to the northwest suburb.
“More power to them,” said Mack. “Mayor Stephens had put out the Rosemont notion all along as an ‘in case it doesn’t work, here’s this’ kind of option. It wasn’t any kind of a competitive deal that some people mistakenly characterized it as.”
Still, Stephens had offered up a host of incentives that included a greatly reduced amusement tax and no limits on signage, night games, concerts and street fairs.
“Rosemont is always such a hot commodity there’s certainly no fear the site will lie fallow for any period of time,” said Mack. “The fact of the matter is that Rosemont was out there as an option. But hey, you never know what could happen down the line, right?”
