NIU receiver Martel Moore seeing his stock rise

Updated: April 17, 2013 6:15AM

Northern Illinois wide receiver Martel Moore was positioned in the middle of a circle while former Huskies quarterback Chandler Harnish and scouts from the San Francisco 49ers and Denver Broncos surrounded him and fired footballs his way.

“You couldn’t really move your feet,” Moore said. “You just had to look for the ball. And they were just throwing it from every direction, throwing real bad balls and circling around. I didn’t drop many.”

Consider it one of the highlights of his private workout Friday, a week after NIU’s pro day. Receiver Perez Ashford and cornerback Rashaan Melvin also participated.

“They wanted to see how my route running was and how fast I was off the ball and how I track the ball down in cold conditions,” Moore said. “They wanted to talk to me just to see what type of person I was.

“I tell them, you’re going to get a hard worker and somebody who is eager to show those who have doubts about me that there is no reason to doubt me.”

Moore had a solid pro day in front of 17 scouts in less than ideal conditions, and his stock is on the rise. A meeting already is scheduled with the Seattle Seahawks in April.

Moore is coming off a big senior season. He made 75 catches for 1,083 yards and 13 touchdowns.

At his pro day, Moore got a chance to work with former Bears receivers coach Darryl Drake, who is now with the Arizona Cardinals. Drake coached Moore’s cousin at Texas.

“He told me to be calm and just go play my game,” Moore said. “He just wanted to see how I played under pressure.

“I’m getting a real good feeling about my whole situation. I just want to get my shot.”
