Mike Brod of Glen Ellyn caught the laker of his life Jan. 3 at
Milwaukee Harbor.
Brod and his son, an active-duty military man back in town, hired Ben Kueng’s Guide Service to take them fishing for brown trout and rainbows.
They caught and released more than 30 fish before Brod boated this 36.5-inch lake trout on a jig tipped with Gulp! Kueng said it was the biggest laker ever in his boat.
‘‘My son and I have caught close to an estimated 2,000 lakers in Canada and Lake Michigan (mostly Canada), and this is the biggest we’ve boated,’’ Brod emailed.
The laker, which weighed an estimated 30 pounds, was photographed and quickly released.
‘‘People should know what a fantastic fishery there is right in our own backyard,’’ Brod emailed.
