Cubs non-tender Ian Stewart

The Cubs tendered contracts to four arbitration-eligible players: right-handed pitchers Matt Garza and Jeff Samardzija, left-handed pitcher James Russell and infielder Luis Valbuena.
Three players were non-tendered: third baseman Ian Stewart and right-handed pitchers Zach Putnam and Jaye Chapman. Putnam and Chapman were not eligible for arbitration. The Cubs hope to bring Stewart back.
Right-handed pitcher Casey Coleman cleared waivers and was assigned to Class AAA Iowa.
The Cubs’ 40-man roster stands at 37.
