News and notes

Saint Louis coach Rick Majerus won’t return to the team because of a serious heart condition. He has been undergoing evaluation and treatment in California for heart trouble, and he and his representatives have requested the Billikens not provide additional details.

Majerus, 64, has a 25-year record of 517-216 and was 95-69 in five seasons at Saint Louis. Jim Crews, whom Majerus added to the coaching staff last season, is the Billikens’ interim coach.

† The NCAA ruled UCLA freshman guard Shabazz Muhammad eligible to play. It said the Bruins’ sanctions against Muhammad were sufficient after the school required him to sit out three games and repay $1,600 in benefits.
