Updated: December 19, 2012 12:20PM

Northwestern coach Bill Carmody landed one of the nation’s top guard prospects in 6-2 Jaren Sina, who will join 6-7 Nate Taphorn from Downstate Pekin in the Wildcats’ class of 2013.

Sina and Taphorn are expected to sign Thursday as the early-signing period opens.

Sina, from Lake Hopatcong, N.J., is considered among the best recruits of Carmody’s tenure. He’s a top-100 prospect in many high school rankings and considered a skilled shooter and savvy floor leader. NU assistant coach Fred Hill, the former coach at Rutgers, was instrumental in Sina’s recruiting after originally targeting him for Rutgers.

Taphorn is a lanky shooter who was recruited by a number of Missouri Valley schools as well as Boston College and Colorado. He’s considered the type of shooter who can fit well in Carmody’s system.
