Loyola has signed two guards to next season’s freshmen class on the first day of the national signing period Wednesday, including the younger brother of current Rambler guard Cully Payne.

Quinten Payne from St. Charles averaged 16.9 points, 6.7 rebounds, 3.1 assists and 1.6 steals as a junior at St. Charles North. He will join 6-1 Jordan Pickett from Indianapolis as coach Porter Moser attempts to boost the team’s depth in the backcourt.

``We continue to solidify our depth at the guard position,’’ Moser said. ``Both are high-character, extremey competitive kids. Competitiveness is the one characteristic that stood out to me because when you are ooking to change the culture of a program, you have to start with competitive kids.’’

Pickett averaged 26.2 points, 5.1 rebounds, 2.5 assists and 3.0 steals as a junior. He was rated the 12th best player in Indiana by ESPN and was an all-sectional and all Hamilton County selection.
