Balanced attack sparks UIC men’s basketball to victory in season opener

Josh Crittle scored 15 points, grabbed seven rebounds and blocked five shots to lead UIC to a 59-52 victory Sunday against UC-Riverside at the Pavilion.
Joey Miller added 14 points and Gary Talton and Hayden Humes 10 each for the Flames (1-0), who yielded the first basket of the game
before scoring 14 consecutive points to take control. Humes scored all 10 of his points during the run.
Josh Fox and Chris Patton each scored 10 points to lead the Highlanders (0-2), who got as close as three points twice in the last two minutes before coming up short. Fox also grabbed a game-high 10 rebounds.
Ohio State 82, Albany 60
Aaron Craft scored a career-high 20 points, and Deshaun Thomas scored 13 of his 19 points during a 17-2 run at the end of the first half that carried the No. 4 Buckeyes past the Great Danes in the season opener for both teams in Columbus, Ohio.
Ohio State was supposed to open its season Friday against Marquette aboard the USS Yorktown, but condensation on the court led to the game being canceled.
San Diego State 49
C.J. Fair and Michael Carter-Williams each scored 16 points, and the No. 9 Orange began the game with a 17-4 run and coasted past the
Aztecs in the season opener for both teams on the flight deck of the USS Midway in San Diego.
Southeastern Louisiana 47
Jared Berggren scored 19 points, and Ben Brust added 14 points and 11 rebounds to power the No. 23 Badgers to a rout of the Lions in the season opener for both teams in Madison, Wis.
Marquette 84, Colgate 63
Jamil Wilson scored 15 points, Davante Gardner 14 and Chris Otule 11, and the Golden Eagles rolled past the Raiders (0-2) in their season opener in Milwaukee.
Purdue 83, Hofstra 54
Anthony Johnson led a balanced
attack with 14 points, and the Boiler-
makers (1-1) used a 50-22 rebounding edge to whip the Pride (0-2) in West Lafayette, Ind.
