Czeslaw Czaia was casting a big Rapala on Saturday on the Des Plaines River near the abandoned Willow Springs Road bridge. That caught the eye of Cicero photographer Nicholas Kriho, who was lunching there with his wife, Dawne.
‘‘We had not been there much longer than a minute,’’ Kriho emailed. ‘‘Just as I was thinking, ‘What the hell does he think he’s gonna catch here with that, a muskie or something?’ he did exactly that.’’
Kriho quickly went to the end of the bridge to help land the 37-inch muskie. A bilingual friend of Czaia’s showed up as they were releasing it, and Kriho learned it would have been released anyway.
It earns Fish of the Week for the oddity and Kriho’s photo.
