Jay Cutler ‘tight’ but doesn’t blame Ndamukong Suh for hard sack

Updated: November 25, 2012 11:51AM

Bears quarterback Jay Cutler said he’s feeling the effects of bruised ribs he suffered when he was sacked by Ndamukong Suh in the second quarter Monday night but will be ‘‘good to go’’ Sunday against the Carolina Panthers at Soldier Field.

‘‘It was a tough hit,’’ Cutler said Tuesday during his weekly appearance on ‘‘The Silvy & Waddle Show’’ on WMVP-AM (1000). ‘‘He caught me just right. It was an awkward fall more than anything and kind of caught me on his knee and the ball a little bit. I’ll be all right.’’

Cutler was injured and temporarily knocked out of the game, which the Bears won 13-7. He said Tuesday he was not in pain and doesn’t plan to take any painkillers this week.

‘‘I’m just tight,’’ he said. ‘‘Everyday movements I’m all right. We have to throw on Thursday, so it’ll be a little bit tight. I’ll be good to go by Sunday.’’

Suh’s aggressive takedown irked wide receiver Brandon Marshall.

‘‘I’m around Jay every day, and I’m going to stand up to this,’’ he said. ‘‘Jay doesn’t want to create any controversy. Was it the worst hit? No. But I’ve never seen someone play the game like that.

‘‘For a wrestling move to be accepted on the football field is ridiculous. It was illegal. It wasn’t borderline illegal. It wasn’t suspect. It was illegal.’’

An NFL spokesman said the sack was a ‘‘legal play, not a foul.’’ Cutler did not have a problem with it and reiterated Tuesday he didn’t think Suh crossed the line.

‘‘That [Lions] defense, you know going into it what their intentions are,’’ Cutler said. ‘‘They play hard football. They get after the quarterback. They’re tough tacklers. That’s just who they are.

‘‘I’m not going to take anything away from them. I still think it was clean. And [Suh’s] a good player. That’s what makes him who he is, is playing that way.’’

Bears coach Lovie Smith, who preaches aggressive play by his defense, agreed.

‘‘That’s football,’’ Smith said. ‘‘No one is trying to hurt anyone out there. It was just a tough, hard-nosed game.’’
