Blackhawks forward Patrick Kane was close to signing overseas

Patrick Kane’s appearance at the Ronald McDonald House near Lurie Children’s hospital Wednesday meant two things: He’s in for the Blackhawks’ “Champs for Charity” game next week and he’s holding off on signing in Europe for now.
But he was close to heading overseas as the NHL’s lockout of players persists.
“Yeah, I would say I was close maybe a week or two ago to going over,” Kane said.”But it was just kind of wait for the right situation and things like that. You hear about this game and you hear the negotiations are going better and you don’t want to make any rush to get over there and have to come back in a couple weeks. We’ll see what happens with the negotiations.”
Kane joined Jonathan Toews, Patrick Sharp, Brian Campbell and Adam Burish Wednesday to promote their Oct. 26 charity game at Allstate Arena, which benefits the downtown Ronald McDonald House. It was the same day the NHL made their recent proposal to the NHL Players’ Association available for all to see.
“It’s probably a good move by them to put the offer out and make it look like they’re offering everything we want especially to the media,” Kane said. “But it’s a good stepping stone. It’s something you can build off of.”
