One of Mike Ditka’s sons is again facing a driving under the influence charge — this time for a Sunday arrest in Deerfield.
Mark Ditka, the 49-year-old son of the famed former Bears coach, was also charged with possession of a controlled substance after police said they found an unmarked bottle of hydrocodone pills in his car.
Mark Ditka, a Deerfield resident, was stopped for illegal lane use while on Waukegan Road near Central Avenue at 3:42 a.m. Sunday, Deerfield police said.
An officer conducted a field sobriety test and placed Mark Ditka under arrest. He refused to take a breath alcohol test or a blood test, police said.
The officer searched Mark Ditka’s car and found the hydrocodone, a controlled substance that requires a doctor’s prescription, police said.
Prosecutors approved charges, and Mark Ditka was taken to the Lake County Jail. He is due in court on Nov. 2.
He also was cited for operating an uninsured vehicle, driving on a suspended license and illegal lane use.
It’s Mark Ditka’s second DUI arrest in Deerfield in the past 12 months. Breathalyzer results in the first case were later thrown out by a judge.
His older brother, Michael Ditka, 50, also of Deerfield, had a felony DUI case against him dropped earlier this year. He was charged with a felony because he had two prior DUI arrests.
