Respected third-base coach Pat Listach, one of two coaching staff holdovers left from last year, was fired after Wednesday’s season finale.

``I believe in the direction the organization’s going,’’ said Listach, a former big-league shortstop who was a key part of second baseman Darwin Barney’s defensive development this season. ``I’m just not going to be a part of it. But I’ll be fine.’’

The rest of manager Dale Sveum’s coaching staff is expected to remain intact, with the possible exception of interim hitting coach James Rowson, whose status is still to be determined.

Rowson replaced hitting coach Rudy Jaramillo in June. With a staff shakeup coming in Boston, the Cubs are expected to look into the availability of Red Sox hitting coach Dave Magadan.

Sveum, who took over as manager less than a year ago, is expected to look at old colleagues he was unable to hire last year in filling Listach’s position.

``He did a great job. It wasn’t anything he did,’’ Sveum said. ``I’ll recommend him for any job.’’

Listach and Barney embraced in the clubhouse after the coach got the news.

``It’s tough,’’ Barney said. ``He was one of the first people to see what I had and believe in me. … He’s going to be fine. But it’s hard to see him go.’’
