Six players on Marquette’s Sweet 16-bound basketball team were ticketed in late January for being underage in a downtown Milwaukee nightclub, according to a report published Tuesday.
The Milwaukee Journal Sentinel reported the incident after making an open records request for the Milwaukee police department’s report on the incident Jan. 29 at the Apartment 720 nightclub.
The six players are freshman guard Todd Mayo, 20; junior guard Jake Thomas, 20; sophomore guard Vander Blue, 19; sophomore forward Jamail Jones, 19; freshman forward Juan Anderson, 18; and freshman guard Derrick Wilson, 20.
The legal drinking age in Wisconsin is 21. The newspaper reported each face a fine of $374 for the ‘‘presence of a minor at licensed premises.’’
On Feb. 25, coach Buzz Williams suspended several players for half of the game against West Virginia for undisclosed violations of team rules. But it wasn’t known if the nightclub incident was connected to that suspension. Held out in that game were Blue, senior guard Darius Johnson-Odom and junior guard Junior Cadougan.
The Golden Eagles were leaving Tuesday for Phoenix, site of their West Regional semifinal Thursday against Florida.
