Jonathan Toews doesn’t like to miss any time with an injury he thinks he can play through, especially when the Blackhawks are facing a divisional opponent such as the Nashville Predators.
In other words, the fact Toews left the Hawks’ 5-2 loss Saturday to the Predators in the second
period suggests he’s dealing with an injury he and the team are taking seriously. With one game left before the All-Star break, caution is the best approach with Toews, a Hart Trophy candidate.
The Hawks were off Sunday, and more will be known about Toews’ injury after practice Monday. Officially, the Hawks are saying Toews is day-to-day with an upper-body injury.
Toews was slashed over his left wrist and hand by Florida Panthers defenseman Erik Gudbranson on Friday. He finished that game, but he held his wrist on the ice and on the bench in noticeable pain.
Toews, one of the best two-way players in the league, is on track for his best season in terms of statistics. He is second in the NHL with 27 goals and has 50 points in 49 games.
