Dan Ryan 95th Street exit opens

September 18, 2006
In a piece of good news for drivers on the Dan Ryan, the 95th Street exit ramp is scheduled to reopen to traffic today.

But then on Sept. 29, the 87th Street exit ramp will close, the Illinois Department of Transportation said.

IDOT has been scheduling ramp closures on a staggered basis to avoid closing consecutive exits or entrances at the same time.

Part of the state's two-year reconstruction project on the Ryan involves reconfiguring several ramps to make merging easier, an improvement that should reduce the number of accidents, IDOT said.

As a reminder, one express lane in each direction is now open between 31st and 59th streets. That gives motorists access to four lanes instead of three until December, when IDOT plans to reopen all closed lanes at the end of this year's construction season.
