Daley: Use public transit, not Dan Ryan
Mayor Daley on Monday urged commuters to use public transportation rather than drive on the Dan Ryan Expy. while it is being rebuilt.
Lane reductions will mean motorists will not have the use of shoulders in the event of an accident or breakdown.
''We have been working for months now with our partners on a plan designed to deliver a rapid emergency response for accident victims,'' said Illinois Department of Transportation chief of staff Clayton K. Harris III.
Daley said traffic light timing on key alternate routes for automobiles has been adjusted, and 65 traffic aides will be posted along the streets.
As for truckers, Daley said officials hope they'll travel the expressway at night. The trucks would be disruptive to neighborhoods and could be too heavy for surface streets.
