Second man sentenced in 2010 South Side murder

The second of two men accused in a fatal shooting on a South Side porch in 2010 was sentenced to prison Monday. Judge James Linn sentenced Cordero Amos, 25, to 40 years in prison, according to a statement from the Cook County State’s Attorney’s office. A jury convicted Amos of first-degree murder in March.

Neighbor’s dog seriously injures 9-year-old boy: police

The boy was playing in his yard in the 200 block of West 112th Place about 8 p.m. when the attack occurred, Chicago Police said. A nephew of the dog owner was able to pull the animal off the boy, who was later hospitalized with bites to his arms and legs, authorities said.

Man shot in the head on South Side

A 20-year-old man was shot in the head about 8:15 p.m. Monday in the 3100 block of South Rhodes in the Douglas neighborhood on the South Side. Paramedics took the man to Northwestern Memorial Hospital in critical condition, according to Fire Media Affairs.

Chicago Police are asking for help to identify the body of woman or teen girl found strangled and badly burned in a Dumpster in the Avondale neighborhood Sunday night. An autopsy Monday found the person had been strangled, and the death was ruled a homicide, according to the Cook County Medical Examiner’s office.

A 64-year-old man who was shot more than 30 years ago on the South Side died late Saturday. Thomas Tabu, of the 1000 block of South Ashland Avenue, was pronounced dead at home at 8:45 p.m. Saturday, according to the Cook County Medical Examiner’s office. Tabu was injured in a shooting in 1980, near the intersection of 33rd and South State streets, though exact date of the shooting was not available, An autopsy, which could have determined the exact cause and manner of the man’s death, was inconclusive Sunday, pending the results of further studies. …

Woman pleads guilty to molesting 3-year-old

A Northwest Indiana woman accused of photographing herself molesting a 3-year-old for her boyfriend pleaded guilty Friday to two of the 13 felony charges against her. Tara Tryon, 23, of Wanatah, Ind., will serve 10 years for Class B felony child molesting and eight years for Class C felony child exploitation if Indiana’s Porter Superior Judge William Alexa accepts her plea at a July 12 sentencing hearing.
