Oscar-nominated actress Taraji P. Henson is gracious when describing how she has been dealing with a Chicago winter. She’s here for one more week filming the Fox drama pilot “Empire,” from director Lee Daniels, and she is too well bred to say it has been abysmally, horribly cold as hell. She just couches weather talk with a compliment: “You guys make incredible soups. You have to because it’s the fricking North Pole up here!” No worries. She has no problem coming back in the summer. She also had no problem explaining why her character on “Person of Interest” was shockingly … ]]> Fri, 04 Apr 2014 18:20:54 -0500 <![CDATA[ ‘Game of Thrones’ stars don’t find inspiration from George R.R. NEW YORK — Like every “Game of Thrones” fan, Charles Dance was gobsmacked by last season’s next-to-last installment. That episode, “Red Wedding,” made good on its title with a massacre staged by the bride’s father, Lord Walder Frey, who meant to settle a score with his hall of guests, and did. “I got quite a shock!” says Dance, speaking for everyone who saw it. “It was bloody in the extreme!” The fact that Dance was caught off-guard is notable, since he’s a star of the show. “SURVIVING JACK” (7:30 p.m. Thursday, WFLD-Channel 32): Television needs another nostalgic family comedy with a “Wonder Years”-style voiceover like it needs another singing competition. But there’s an acerbic charm to Fox’s 1991-set sitcom that elevates it above similar newcomers “Growing Up Fisher” and “The Goldbergs.” Christopher Meloni (“Law & Order: SVU”) plays a better-looking, better-educated Al Bundy whose no-frills view of the world and unorthodox advice generate some genuine laughs.
